The Giver, TRJ #2

TURNING POINT

When Jonas was Eleven, he waited sincerely for the Ceremony of Twelve. At the Ceremony of Twelve, every Eleven becomes a Twelve and each gets a job. Jonas was interested in every job so he wasn’t sure what he would get for his job. When he gets The Receiver for a job, everyone was surprised by that and Jonas himself was confused.
I think the turning point for this novel is when Jonas gets his job for The Receiver because his life changes forever by this job. Being The Receiver made Jonas special from his friends. He had to receive pain which only he and The Giver have. When he starts receiving memories from The Giver, he sees things which he cannot see in his society.
If he didn’t become The Receiver, the story of this book would have been totally different. Because he became The Receiver, he found out the irony of his utopia and tries to change things.

I enjoyed this book very much. This is one of my favorite books. I think The Ceremony of Twelve changed Jonas's life very differently. But to me, the turning point was when Jonas decieded to escape from his community taking Gabriel with him, which I thought was a good idea. I didn't dare to think about him to escape the community and leave his family, The Giver and the memories Jonas still had to recieve, and his friends behind.
I was very shocked when I found out that the previous Reciever who released herself was The Giver's own daughter. Also, it was sad when the community had to release people by killing them and the community people do not know about it. It was so dramatic when Jonas found out about releasing and cried and wailed to see babies killed, that I almost cried.
This is a geat book. I hope you enjoyed it!

I had great time while I was reading this novel. Your enturies about The Giver reminded of the story.I liked the settings of the novel which is totally different place from the world that we are in. It made me imagine and think about the society of today.
I agree with you that The Ceremony of Twelve was turning point for Jona. However I think there are several more turning points for Jonas. For example, when Jonbas' family met Gabriel who is the key character of the story. It indirectly causes or changes the story and also Jonas himself.
